Prescott Preserve Soil Building & Carbon Drawdown Project

Palm Springs, CA

Background and History

Oswit Land Trust and Desert Compost came together in partnership in August 2023, sharing a mission and purpose to build a thriving community composting program at the Prescott Preserve. The composting program builds and enriches soil to heal the land that was once a golf course and improve plant health. The finished soil built in the composting program helps the preserve conserve water, reduce off-site hauling costs, compost invasives, create carbon sinks, and provide the surrounding community with a model of environmental stewardship and responsible resource management.  The Preserve operates a community food scrap bucket swap program which accepts vegan materials.
